Don’t let the bedbugs starve

Every night
I check the corners of my room
In the closet between coats, dresses, and shirts
Under my bed and behind the boxes
The curtains the pillows
The rows of books on the shelves

My pleasure
Not to worry, dear daemons, no inconvenience at all
Nothing to occupy your minds my most constant companions
I’m just making sure you’re comfy and toasty kept warm
Fed by my fears and nightmares and tears
Good for you, loyal foes, all tucked in neatly
Good night, sweet terrors,
Sleep not
